Alwar is one of Rajasthan's most underrated gems — a royal city just 165 km from Delhi that combines a magnificent palace museum, a dramatic hilltop fort, and the gateway to Sariska Tiger Reserve into an easy 2-day escape. The City Palace museum houses rare Mughal-Rajput miniature paintings and royal artifacts in a grand 18th-century setting. The Bala Quila fort looms on a rocky Aravalli ridge with panoramic views. The Siliserh Lake Palace (13 km) is one of Rajasthan's most romantic settings — an 1845 royal hunting lodge converted to a hotel beside a shimmering lake. Just 34 km further, Sariska is home to 25+ tigers and offers the closest major tiger safari to Delhi.

Places to Visit in Alwar

The grand 18th-century palace complex with Rajasthan's finest palace museum — rare miniature paintings, royal weapons, ivory objects, jade-inlaid pieces. The facade overlooking the tank is magnificent. Entry ₹50. Closed Fridays.
Bala Quila Fort
A massive fort on a rocky ridge above the city — largely ruined but extraordinarily atmospheric. 5 km drive up winding road. Panoramic views over Alwar and the Aravalli hills. Almost never crowded.
Siliserh Lake Palace (13 km)
An 1845 royal hunting lodge on the banks of Siliserh Lake — now an RTDC heritage hotel. Non-guests can visit for boating (₹100) and lunch. Sunset from the lakeside terrace is exceptional.
Royal Cenotaphs (Chhatris)
A cluster of royal memorial cenotaphs 1 km from the palace — intricate Rajput-Mughal carved sandstone and marble work. Entirely unvisited and peacefully atmospheric.
