Manali is the most versatile adventure and mountain destination in Himachal Pradesh — a town at 2,050 metres where the Beas River runs cold through apple orchards and deodar forest, surrounded by snow peaks, and serving as the gateway to three of India's greatest mountain journeys: the Rohtang Pass (3,978m) to Lahaul, the Manali–Leh Highway (479 km through five mountain passes) to Ladakh, and the road into Spiti Valley. Old Manali village (3 km from the main town) has a bohemian backpacker character that has attracted travellers for decades. The Hadimba Devi Temple (1553) — a unique pagoda-style wooden temple in a cedar forest — is the town's most sacred and photogenic landmark. Places to Visit in Manali

Hadimba Devi Temple (1553)

The iconic pagoda-style wooden temple in a cedar forest — dedicated to Hadimba Devi, goddess of the Kullu valley. The carved wooden doorway is extraordinary. The forest surrounding the temple is beautiful for morning walks. Entry free.

Rohtang Pass (3,978m · 52 km)

The famous mountain pass connecting Manali to Lahaul Spiti. Snow viewpoint for Delhi visitors seeking their first snow. Permit required (₹500 per vehicle, book at rohtangpermit.nic.in). Open June–October. Traffic jams notorious — start by 6 AM.

Solang Valley (13 km)

The adventure valley — paragliding, zorbing, skiing (winter), snowmobile rides, rope activities. The cable car (₹400 return) goes to 3,480m with outstanding views. Extremely popular — weekends are very crowded.

Old Manali Village

The original village 3 km from the town centre — narrow lanes, apple orchards, traditional wooden homes, backpacker cafes and the ancient Manu Temple. A world away from the busy main market. Walk the riverside trail from the mall.

  Paragliding at Solang: Tandem paragliding from Solang Valley or Dobhi (₹1,500–2,500). The mountain backdrop is extraordinary. October and May are best for clearest views. Book through licensed operators in Manali market.

  Skiing (Jan–Mar): Solang Valley has basic ski slopes with rental equipment. Rohtang also has snow activities. For serious skiing, Kullu Manali has seasonal instructors. January–February is peak snow.

  Rohtang Pass Day Trip: Get permit the evening before at rohtangpermit.nic.in (₹500). Start by 6 AM — the pass gets traffic-jammed by 9 AM. The snow at the pass (June–October) is clean and the views of Lahaul Valley are extraordinary. Take warm clothes even in summer.

  Beas River Rafting: Grade II–IV rapids on the Beas River (Pirdi to Jhiri, 14 km) — same stretch as Kullu. October–November and March–June for best flows. Operators in Manali market.

  Apple Orchards (Aug–Oct): Manali is surrounded by apple orchards producing Himachal's famous Royal Delicious apples. Many farm stays and orchards welcome visitors in September–October harvest season.

  Rohtang Permit: Book online at rohtangpermit.nic.in the evening before (₹500/vehicle). Only 1,200 permits issued daily — book early. Your EZPZ driver will need the permit — share details when booking.
• ⏰
  Start Early: Rohtang traffic jams begin at 9 AM. Leave Manali hotel by 6 AM latest. Similarly, Solang Valley on weekends gets very crowded by 10 AM — get there at 8 AM.
