Is monsoon a good time to visit Haridwar and Rishikesh?
Monsoon (July-September) has mixed implications for Haridwar and Rishikesh. Haridwar Ganga Aarti continues beautifully and is arguably more spiritual in the rain. However, the Ganga is in flood during monsoon and river rafting in Rishikesh is suspended (water levels too high and dangerous). Trekking in the hills above Rishikesh has landslide risk. The Kanwar Yatra (July) brings massive crowds to the Haridwar-Rishikesh belt. Best visit for rafting and trekking: October to June. For purely spiritual Haridwar visit: monsoon is fine.
