Kanwar Yatra — When NOT to Drive
During Kanwar Yatra (July–August), millions of pilgrims walk the Delhi–Haridwar highway carrying Ganga water. The highway and Haridwar are extremely congested — adding 3–5 hours to normal drive times. Avoid this period unless specifically coming for the Yatra.
Kumbh Mela Years
Haridwar hosts the Kumbh Mela every 12 years (next after 2021: 2033) and the Ardh Kumbh every 6 years. These are extraordinary to witness but infrastructure is stretched — book accommodation 6+ months ahead.
