Parvati Valley carves north from the Kullu Valley along the Parvati River — a progressively narrowing, steeply forested gorge that ends at the sacred pilgrimage site of Manikaran and continues (for those who trek) to some of the most remote and beautiful Himalayan terrain in India. The valley has long had a magnetic pull on travellers drawn by its combination of hot springs, ancient temples, trekking trails, and a certain unhurried quality to village life. The villages of Kasol, Kheerganga, Tosh and Malana each have their own distinct character — Kasol is the Israeli-backpacker cafe hub, Kheerganga is a meadow with natural hot springs reached by a 12 km trek, Tosh is a beautiful stone village where people come to simply be for days, and Malana is one of India's most fascinatingly isolated communities with its own language, customs and laws. The Pin Parvati Pass (5,319m) connects the valley to the Pin Valley in Spiti — one of the Himalayas' great high-altitude crossings for experienced trekkers.
