Robbers Cave (Guchhupani) is one of the best natural attractions in Dehradun — and incredibly cheap to visit. Here's everything you need to know before you go:
Entry fee: ₹35 per person (~$0.37 USD). Children under 5 enter free. Parking costs an extra ₹20–₹50 depending on your vehicle.
Timings: Open daily 7 AM – 6 PM. Arrive before 10 AM to beat the crowds and get the best experience inside the cave.
What to expect: The cave is a 600-metre natural limestone gorge with a stream running right through it — you wade through ankle-to-knee-deep water the entire way. There's a 10-metre waterfall inside. Two separate cave sections to explore. Total visit time: 1–2 hours.
What to wear: Shorts and sandals or waterproof footwear. You will get wet. Locals rent basic waterproof slippers at the entrance for ₹10–₹20 (~$0.20). Leave your good shoes in the car.
Getting there: Robbers Cave is about 8 km from Dehradun city centre. A cab from Dehradun will cost ₹200–₹300 (~$2.10–$3.15) each way. If you're coming from Delhi (280 km away), an EZPZ Taxi outstation cab gets you there comfortably for a day trip or overnight.
Best season: March–June and October–November. Avoid July–September (monsoon) — water levels inside rise dramatically and the cave frequently closes for safety.
US travellers note: At under $0.40 entry, this is one of the most affordable natural attractions in North India. The experience genuinely rivals far pricier adventure sites.
