For a winter (December-February) Delhi to Manali trip, pack: Thermal innerwear (top and bottom), heavy woollen sweater or fleece jacket, down jacket or parka, waterproof outer layer, warm socks (2–3 pairs), gloves, woollen cap and scarf, waterproof snow boots with grip (renting in Manali is also fine), sunscreen (UV is intense at high altitude even in winter), lip balm, sunglasses. In the cab, keep one bag accessible rather than in the boot for easy access during stops. EZPZ Taxi provides warm, comfortable SUVs for winter Manali trips — call +91-9871121217.

A winter Manali trip (November–February) requires serious preparation — temperatures drop to -5 to -10°C at night in town, and even colder at Solang Valley. Here's the complete packing list:

Clothing — Layer System is Essential

Base Layer (worn directly on skin):

  • Thermal innerwear — top and bottom (wool or synthetic, not cotton)
  • Thermal socks — 2–3 pairs minimum

Mid Layer (insulation):

  • Fleece jacket or heavy woollen sweater
  • Woollen/fleece pants or track pants over thermals

Outer Layer (wind and waterproof):

  • Heavy down jacket (rated to -10°C minimum) — this is the most important item
  • Waterproof/windproof shell jacket
  • Snow pants or waterproof trousers for outdoor activities

Accessories (non-negotiable):

  • Warm gloves (inner liner + outer waterproof glove)
  • Beanie / woollen hat — covers ears
  • Balaclava or neck gaiter — for Solang Valley or Rohtang area
  • Sunglasses — snow reflection causes snow blindness, UV is intense at altitude
  • Waterproof ankle boots or snow boots — regular sneakers are useless in snow

Practical Items

  • Moisturiser and lip balm — mountain air is very dry, skin cracks without these
  • Sunscreen SPF 50+ — UV radiation at 2,000–4,000m is much stronger than at sea level
  • Personal medicines — altitude can trigger headaches; carry Diamox (acetazolamide) if altitude-sensitive (consult doctor first)
  • Power bank — cold weather drains phone batteries quickly
  • Cash — mountain shops often have poor connectivity for UPI

For Snow Activities at Solang Valley

  • Renting ski gear and snow suits at Solang is easy and cheap (₹200–500/day) — no need to bring your own
  • Bring your own thermal gloves regardless — rental gloves are often low quality
